Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement | Test space for future ad if donations don't increase. |

As the largest city in western Canada, Vancouver needs a world class airport and Vancouver
International Airport is that airport. Vancouver International Airport, with the airport call letters.
YVR, is actually in the City of Richmond, British Columbia. In 1929, the City of Vancouver
bought land on Sea Island to establish an aviation center. Over the years, the site and airport have
expanded and in 2009, it was the second busiest airport in Canada by aircraft movements and the
busiest Canadian airport for transpacific flights. Vancouver International Airport is considered
one of the top 10 Airports in the world. The airport is one of eight Canadian airports that have
U.S. border preclearance facilities and it handles passengers en route to the cruise ship terminal. The airport is 7 miles from Downtown Vancouver. Vancouver International Airport has four terminals. The original terminal is now part of the South Terminal. The main terminal was completed in 1968 and since has been expanded to include separate domestic and international facilities. There is also an International Terminal and a Transborder Terminal was completed in the late 1990s. The north runway was completed in 1996. The terminal is of contemporary design with an abundance of steel and glass. Since the airport receives a large number of passengers who are in Vancouver as tourist or making connections to cruise ships, there are museum type displays of native wildlife and indigenous people and public art. "The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, The Jade Canoe" by Bill Reid is on display in the international departures area. On display is one of the most extensive collections of Pacific Northwest Coast Native art in the world. |
