State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are in trouble. Because of high gasoline prices and general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep these parks open. It will be your loss.

West Vancouver is on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, across from Vancouver, in British Columbia. The city climbs the south-facing slopes of the Coast Mountains from the shore. The east boundary is the Capilano River and beyond is North Vancouver. The Municipality spans 89 square kilometers. West Vancouver separated from the District of North Vancouver on March 15, 1912, and maintains a residential atmosphere. The city includes several villages, each unique in character. The Park Royal Shopping Centre is the first shopping mall in Canada. With the opening of the Lion's Gate Bridge in November 1938, both North Vancouver and West Vancouver grew and much of the construction dates to after the completion of the bridge. The districts of North and West Vancouver are often referred to as the North Shore.
