State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.Places Earth recently encountered closed state parks in Arizona and California is threatening to close all state parks. The story is similar throughout the country. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep these parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement |

The City of Quartzsite may be best known for a large swap meet and rock and mineral meet once a year, but there are other points of historic interest such as Tyson Well Stage Station Museum. |

The original adobe stage station at Tyson Well was built in 1866 by Charley Tyson at its present location. Excellent water and grass for the horses made it an important way station on the California-Arizona line. Miners and freighters passed through here on th way to the Territorial Capital at Prescott hauling mining equipment and military supplies from the river port at Ehrenberg. The Tyson's Well Museum opened in February 1980, after extensive restoration and is operated by the Quartzsite Historical Society. A miniature village of cement and stone houses, built by Walter Barrett, occupies an outdoor space. The ruins of the Oasis Hotel lie just west of the museum. Hours are short: November to March, the museum is open Wednesday - Sunday 10 am - 4 pm; April - October, the museum is open Thursday only 9-12 or by appointment. This author passed by on a Tuesday in May and didn't know to make an appointment - 928-927-6159. The museum on on the south side of the main street about the middle of town, just off Interstate 10 in Quartzsite. Quartzsite Historical Society P.O.
