Harmony Borax Works is in Death Valley, a few miles north of Furnace Creek. The mule teams hauled loads weighing up to 36 tons, including 1,200 gallons of drinking water. The team and wagons were over 100 feet long. Originally the route endded in Daggett from 1882-1883, then the railroad was extended to Mojaze and from 1884 to 1888, the teams follewed a 165 mile route through Wingate Pass to Mojave. See also Borax Visitor Center and 20-Mule Team Museum. |
