Historic Sites and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important historic sites, homes, buildings, and museums are in trouble. Because of the recent rise in gasoline prices and the general world-wide financial collapse, historic sites and museums are in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent.

The Blackbird Airpark is the world's only display of a Lockheed SR-71A together with an A-12 test vehicle, the Blackbird predecessor, and the once ultra-secret D-21 drone. The park opened in November 1991 and a U-2D was added in November 2001. Additional smaller displays include vehicles, engines, and wind tunnel models. Blackbird Airpark is owned and operated by the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum.

Blackbird Airpark is in the City of Palmdale, on the south side of the airport at Air Force's Production Flight Test Installation at Plant 42 at the corner of Avenue P and 25th Street East in Palmdale, California. Open Friday through Sunday (weather permitting), from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is closed on Federal holidays. Admission is free.

Adjacent to the Blackbird Airpark is Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Airpark. Together, the two Airparks make a strip of aircraft history along almost a quarter mile of Avenue P.

Other Blackbirds on this web site are California Science Center and Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park.
