Historic Sites and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important historic sites, homes, buildings, and museums are in trouble. Because of the recent rise in gasoline prices and the general world-wide financial collapse, historic sites and museums are in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent.

This statue of aviator Amelia Earhart stands at the corner of Magnolia and Tajunga, in North Hollywood, California.

In 1970 a statue of Amelia Earhart was put on display in 1970. Sculptor Ernest Shelton used steel and fiberglass to fabricate the statue. After many years, the original materials deteriorated. On July 25, 2002, the statue was removed and recast in bronze. The new statue was rededicated on Amelias birthday, July 24, 2003, during the year of the Centennial of Manned Flight.

Amelia Earhart lived in North Hollywood most of her life until 1937 when she was lost while circumnavigating the earth. She lived in North Hollywood to be close to the Lockheed plant in Burbank.
