Historic Sites and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important historic sites, homes, buildings, and museums are in trouble. Because of the recent rise in gasoline prices and the general world-wide financial collapse, historic sites and museums are in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent.

It is my understanding that Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Air Park is owned by the City of Palmdale. It is adjacent to, but separate from, the Blackbird Air Park at the corner of Avenue P and 25th Street in Palmdale. It follows Avenue P from the Blackbird Airpark to 20th Street. This is a work in progress with additional aircraft added every few months. Although currently only a few aircraft cover a few acres adjacent to the Blackbird Airpark, the plan is to extend it all the way to 20th Street. We visited on March 13, 2004. There were only a half dozen aircraft on display with a few being restored behind. There was not yet signage but a helpful Park Ranger provided information. Aircraft represented were an A-4, F-4, T-38,F-105, F-104, F-86, also a model of a B-2. As I only learned of this park after arriving at the Blackbird Airpark, I will provide more information as I learn more. There are major plans to expand this park, so I will add more information as more information becomes available. I was unable to find an official web site and there was no printed material available at the site. If aircraft is of interest to you, stop by from time to time to check its progress.

Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Airpark is a collection of aircraft flown, tested, designed, produced or modified at United States Air Force Plant 42. The Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Airpark opened to the public on January 21, 2004 with official grand opening ceremonies held on August 6, 2004. The plan is for over 40 different aircraft will eventually be on display. I first visited March 14, 2004 whle the site was still developing.
