Historic Sites and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important historic sites, homes, buildings, and museums are in trouble. Because of the recent rise in gasoline prices and the general world-wide financial collapse, historic sites and museums are in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent.

Affectionately known as "The Blue Whale," the Pacific Design Center, or PDC, is a center for contemporary Interior Design finishes, furniture, and accessories for the Los Angeles area. At one time, plans were to add additional buildings in other primary colors. Due to various economic reasons, only the "Green" building was realized.

Pacific Design Center is also home to several Professional Organizations. The PDC contains 1.2 million square feet, 130 showrooms, a theater, and a conference center on a 14-acre site. Also on the site is a Two-acre outdoor plaza and garden with a amphitheater.

The PDC was designed by Architect Cesar Pelli, FAIA. The 750,000 square-feet Center Blue opened in September 1975. The 450,000 square-feet Center Green opened in March 1988, 200,000 square-feet of which was converted to office space in 2001 due to a poor economy which caused reduced rental revenue. A 400,000 square-foot Center Red, is awaiting an improved economy.

The Pacific Design Center is located at 8687 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, California.
