State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, important state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are in trouble. Because of high gasoline prices and general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Most operate on a thin margin and will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep these parks open. It will be your loss.

I removed everything I could find in the car that looked or smelled like food, but got this bear warning for leaving a bottle of scented hand lotion in the car.

Yosemite Chapel

The Yosemite Chapel is a non-denominational place of worship. It was built in 1879 and is the oldest builidng in Yosemite Natinal Park, now on a new foundation and in a new location. It was originally four miles west at the base to the 4-mile trail to Glacier Point. In the current location, it was part of the old Yosemite Village and is now the last remaining building of the old Village which was moved about 1950. The Yosemite Chapel is a National Registered Historic Site, the first of five buildings in the park that are National Registered Historic Sites.
