Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement | Test space for future ad if donations don't increase. |

The Kimberly Crest Mansion was designed by the firm of Dennis and Farwell and constructed in 1897 for Mrs. Cornelia A. Hill, a widow from Middletown, New York. The house is a beauteful example of Chateauesque Architecture. J. Alfred Kimberly and Helen Cheney Kimberly purchased the hosue in 1905 and added an Italian style Garden in 1909 designed by Parkinson and Bergstrom. J. Alfred Kimberly was a founder of the Kimberly-Clark Paper Company and Helen Cheney Kimberly was a strong supporter of the Women's Club Movement. Their daughter, Mrs. Mary Kimberly Shirk was married in Redlands to Elbert Walker Shirk in 1905. Elbert, a native of Peru, Indiana, died in 1919, a result of injury suffered during World War I. The Shirks had no children and Mrs. Shirk moved to Redlands in 1920 to be with her parents. Following the death of Mrs. Shirk's parents, she aquirred the house and lived there for nearly 60 years. She donated the house to the people of Redlands with the Kimberly-Shirk Association operating the house since 1981.
The house is a California Registered Historical Landmark number 1019.
