State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss.

Yucaipa Adobe (AKA Sepulveda or Dunlap Adobe) is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, original adobe (or any other type) structure in San Bernardino County. Once believed to have been built by Diego Sepulveda, historical and archaeological studies made during seismic and restoration work in 1989-1990 resulted in a new understanding. It is now believed that the Diego Sepulveda Adobe was a few hundred yards away and that James Waters built the Yucaipa Adobe in 1858-1859.

Antonio Maria Lugo received a land grant in the San Bernardino and Yucaipa Vallies from Governor Alvarado in 1842. John Dunlap purchased the Yucaipa Ranch in 1869 and the family maintained an interest in the ranch until the 1950s by which time, most of the land had been sold off.

In 1954, the Yucaipa Women's Club raised money to save the deteriorating structure from demolition. They gave the site to the County of San Bernardino and it is administered by the San Bernardino County Museum.

The house is California Registered Historical Landmark number 528

The house was restored and is now open for viewing Wednesday - Sunday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.
