Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement | Test space for future ad if donations don't increase. |

Just south of historic downtown Santa Barbara is the Carriage Museum. Two buildings form a T shape. The larger and older building was used to stable horses for the horse drawn street railway. The newer entry building is a few decades old. The museum houses a collection of carriages and tack from Santa Barbara history. One side of the larger building has a recently completed Western set to help bring visitors back to the days when these vehicles were in use. While not representing Santa Barbara history, one of the most beautiful wagons is a carved wood wine barrel cart. Open Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Sunday 1:00 pm - 4 pm; closed Saturday. Free, donations requested. The address is 129 Castillo Street, a few blocks south of US Highway 101 and a block north of Cabrillo Boulevard and the Harbor. Use the parking lot on the north side of the park and the Museum is toward the back of the parking lot. 805-962-2353. www.carriagemuseum.org. |
