State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss.

In the City of Redding in Northern California, farther north than the Bay Area in an almost forgotten section of California, is a remarkable experience. There are several components to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park that can be enjoyed together or individually. Turtle Bay Exploration Park straddles the Sacramento River in the City of Redding. The Turtle Bay Museum on the south bank of the Sacramento River, Turtle Bay's McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Gardens on the north bank, the Sundial Bridge connecting the two, and trails along the river. The Convention Center is on the edge of the park making it convenient to visitors.

The Turtle Bay Museum is one component of the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. Within are permanent and interactive exhibits with space for traveling exhibits in Permanent and changing exhibit galleries. Some exhibits include underwater fish viewing, walking through historic re-creations, experimenting with scientific equipment, and viewing art. The museum has an organic feel with wood and concrete joined into tree-like columns. The Museum provides an introduction to the other areas of the Exploration Park.
