State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.Places Earth recently encountered closed state parks in Arizona and California is threatening to close all state parks. The story is similar throughout the country. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please find a worthy local or distant historic site or museum that is in financial danger and donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep these parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement |

Yosemite Valley is one of the most visited scenic places on Earth, less visited is the rest of Yosemite National Park. Highway 120 cuts through the center of the park from Lee Vining on the shores of Mono Lake in the east to the region often called the Gold Country in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the west. Most of the remainder of the park is only accessible by back packing into the Back Country. Most of this route is closed in winter as it winds through the area around the border between Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties. The Tuolumne Meadows is a beautiful area with numerous trails and facilities. Olmsted Point and Tenaya View look south to the other side of the mountains that mark the north side of Yosemite Valley. Other turn outs allow many spectacular views and trail heads. The west end of the route leaves the park near the entrance to the Yosemite Valley. While this drive doesn't have the spectacular waterfalls of the Yosemite Valley, it does offer many grand views of a large section of the park. |
