Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement | Test space for future ad if donations don't increase. |

In the heart of the City of Oxnard is one block of over a dozen beautifully restored turn-of-the-century homes and other structures built between 1877 and 1906. In 1985, the Community Development allied itself with other concerned parties to preserve Oxnard's rich historical past. Over a dozen wonderful buildings were gathered from around the Oxnard area and given a new home in this single block. Most of the buildings are original, but a few, such as the water tower and a brick storehouse, are recreations. The church, now the Heritage Square Hall, and two houses were from downtown Oxnard, most of the remaining buildings were ranch houses from the agriculturally significant Oxnard Plains. Many of these buildings are in active use as professional offices, a theater, and shops. The theater conducts a Ghost Stories in October and on one weekend in December, special tours show the buildings decorated for the Holidays. Heritage Square is bordered by A Street, B Street, 7th street, and 8th Street. Heritage Square is a rather large time capsule in the proud city with the unromantic name, Oxnard. |
