Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help. Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss. Public Service Announcement | Test space for future ad if donations don't increase. |

The Ventura County Fair is a nice size fair along the Pacific Coast. It is small enough to see in a day yet large enough that the visitor feels satisfied, and is kept cool by ocean breezes. There are several buildings with exhibits and vedors. One building has aphotography exhibit, another gems, mineral, and models. Home arts, Floriculture, Agricultural and Natural Resources, and Commercial Exhibits fill other buildings. Animals, including pips, goats, cattle, horses, rabbits, and more fill buildings, stall, and barns. Several stages and arenas present animal shows and races, music concerts, and other events. A Midway has rides and other activities. There are special days for various reasons, events, and activities. The Ventura County Fair began in 1874 and is now held on land donated by Orpha and Eugene Foster in 1909. Two Quonset hut like airplane hangers date to just after World War II. The fair is easily reached just a block off Highway 101 in the center of the City of Ventura. 10 West Harbor Boulevard Ventura, CA 93001 (805) 648-3376 |

| Turkey Races by the Oasis Camel Dairy in San Diego. They brought the turkeys instead of camels because it was easier (although the first time this author met Nancy and Gil was at the LA County Fair several years ago with their camels). It was silly fun. | |
