State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, homes, buildings, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss.

The LBJ Ranch is the western section of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park. This site includes the house where President Johnson was born, the ranch where he lived (Texas White House), and where he died and was buried. The site also includes his school, other building, aircraft hangar and airfield, and his cars. Road Trip when this place was visited.
Road Trip Article
After President Johnson's death in 1973, Mrs. Johnson continued to live at the Ranch part time until her death in 2007. The ranch is now open to the public on a self-guided tour of the grounds and a guided tour of the house.

The reconstructed birthplace house commemorates where Lyndon Baines Johnson was born on a rainy August night in 1908. Lyndon's parents were Sam Ealy Johnson, Junior, a state legislator, and Rebekah Baines Johnson, an educator and journalist. The original house was built in 1889 by Sam Ealy Johnson, Senior and his wife Eliza. LBJ's parents moved to the house in 1907. LBJ lived in the house for his first five years and it was torn down in the 1940s. President and Mrs. Johnson had this approximate reproduction built in 1964 to be used as a guest house for visitors to the LBJ Ranch.
